Selling modern clothes in Yangon downtown

Prior to her marriage, Ms. Khin Sandar Hlaing was delivering ingredients to a restaurant. She started her business after her friend recommended her to open a clothing store. Initially, she only sold child clothes at her shop. In 2019, another friend who runs a store at the same market and is a customer of Pazundaung Branch, suggested that she apply for a loan from ASGB because her friend thought that the loan offers an affordable interest rate and would allow her to sell a variety of products to extend her business. She then contacted ASGB and successfully received Daily General Loan for the first time.

The COVID pandemic began shortly after she applied for the loan, forcing nearly all businesses to close to comply with the social distancing rule. It was her biggest challenge in her life. She persisted nevertheless, and visited Pazundaung Branch to negotiate the repayment schedule. She explained her situation and asked whether she could make the interest payment monthly because it was difficult to make a daily repayment. Her repayment schedule was adjusted to allow her to pay off her loan gradually.

Ms. Khin Sandar Hlaing successfully repaid the loan on time. She applied for a second loan with the larger amount. Not to waste the second loan, she quickly opened another cloth shop where she sells women and men’s clothes. Ms. Khin Sandar Hlaing said that meeting with the ASGB came at a time when she needed it most due to the COVID pandemic. Her store opens from 8:00 am to 5:30pm every day and a half day on Sunday. Large wholesale markets like Palaza and Mingalar Zay are where the majority of Bangkok design womenswear is purchased.

Because of the loan, she could purchase more stocks and sell various consumer products and clothes. She appreciates it that ASGB staff always consider customer’s needs and are willing to find a solution. She plans to sell more men’s cloths, including jeans and T shirts in the future.
